Below are some tips for having a great virtual POGIL National Meeting
For almost all of the PNM sessions, we will be using Zoom links. We have provided direct links on the linear agenda at www.pogil.org/pnm-2020 and on the sub-pages for working groups and open networking topics. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a member of the POGIL team as listed on the landing page for the PNM. Additionally, our own Lydia Kitts has put together a wonderful VIDEO with some brief tech tips.
Here are some quick tips to make your virtual PNM a little more pleasant.
Zoom Meetings
Before meeting / Entering a meeting

Join meeting at least five minutes early

Plug in laptops to keep battery charged

Close any unneeded programs or windows

Mute upon entry to avoid background noise

Mute button is on the bottom left of the screen

Test computer audio and video with Zoom tools

Zoom prompts you to do this when joining a meeting
During the meeting

Make sure your first and last name are displayed correctly
-
Only unmute when it is your time to talk to reduce background noise
-
Expect a few seconds delay in a response from someone
-
Mute yourself when you are done talking
-
Keep side conversations and other distractions to a minimum when possible

Use the chat to ask the moderator questions in large plenary sessions

Click on the chat button on the bottom of the screen to see the chat window on right side of the screen

Use the raise hand button on the right side of the screen to ask questions

Talk directly into the microphone
Cisco Webex Meetings
You will notice that there is a “Virtual Lounge” link on your PNM 2020 menu. This room has been created to provide an open meeting space that anyone can join to start a conversation or meet for a quick chat.
Access Webex by clicking on the “Virtual Lounge” link located on the POGIL PNM landing page. This will take you to a download page for the webex launcher. Once Webex is downloaded click on it to get started! Zoom Etiquette and Best Practices for Hosts and Moderators
Hosts

Ask people at the start not to record

Tell people to use the chat and raise hand button to ask the moderator questions

Allow screen sharing when necessary

Set up breakout rooms if needed
Moderators

Watch the chat to see if there are any questions that come up

Watch to see if anyone “raises their hand”
-
Wait for a break or pause to ask a question
Breakout Rooms
-
Only the host or co-host can create breakout rooms
-
Host can assign people to breakout rooms
-
Host can send a message to everyone in the meeting even if in separate rooms
-
Once a room is closed, a pop up will be displayed on the screen prompting the user to return to the main meeting room
