Context from last year: This group generated documents that could be used for an RFP for research in secondary STEM or post-secondary intro calculus. Although the plan was to create the RFP and seek a partner to engage in this project, that did not happen, mostly due to the uncertainty of what financial resources would be needed in a transition to a new publishing partner. However, a potential research project in pre-calculus has arisen at Virginia Commonwealth University, and The Project is currently engaged in conversations at VCU using the criteria and constraints articulated in those documents.
Charge:  The ELIPSS rubrics and the OPTIC tool can be valuable resources for POGIL instructors, and all instructors, at both the secondary and post-secondary levels.
How can The POGIL Project support research that demonstrates the usefulness and/or effectiveness of one (or both) of these tools?
The goal of this working group is to develop responses to this question that are sufficiently detailed that they could be operationalized relatively directly. [The documents from last year would meet this criterion.] This could include a draft RFP, but that is not a requirement. The “Constraints on research project for POGIL”  document that was generated last year could serve as a starting point/basis for this work.
