What is your institution? Webster Schroeder High School
What do you teach? Regents Chemistry and AP Chemistry
How long have you used POGIL? Since 2013 or so.
What was your "AHA" POGIL moment? First time I tried it - and I realized that my students had learned the concept... BUT I HAD NEVER LECTURED ABOUT IT. That's when I knew that this was special.
What do you wish you had known when you first started using POGIL? How kind the POGIL community is. I wish I would have reached out for advice and gotten involved far sooner than I actually did. I was on my own little POGIL island for a very long time.
What would you like to see The POGIL Project accomplish in the next 20 years? My pipe dream is that within the next 20 years, there are published books of POGIL activities for high school math courses, for high school social studies courses, ELA courses, etc. I would love to be able to get a US History teacher interested in POGIL and simply direct them to a published book of 20 activities for US History.
What does the POGIL community mean to you? Everything. The POGIL community is the most supportive, most lovely, most encouraging group of professionals I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The POGIL community is why I keep showing up. Everyone is incredibly kind and so much fun to work with; I consider you my colleagues and my friends. I would not be involved with the POGIL Project if y'all weren't the most awesome and amazing group of people. And if anyone out there is curious about participating in a POGIL event - please do! We welcome you in with open arms!
