      The POGIL Project's 3-day Regional Workshops provide instructors from both high schools and colleges/universities with a significant opportunity to obtain professional development and to gain new insights into teaching and learning.

      On the first day of the workshop, those who are new to POGIL will attend a Fundamentals of POGIL session while those participants who have previously attended a POGIL workshop will attend two new sessions of universal application. The start of the second day will expose all participants to POGIL activity structure and facilitation in a POGIL classroom. For the remainder of the workshop, participants will follow a series of sessions focused on their chosen interest area - Activity Writing, Classroom Facilitation, or Implementing POGIL in the Lab.

      This track is designed for experienced POGIL practitioners who are ready to write their own POGIL activities. Participants will review facilitation practices to help them understand how a well-written activity will help to provide good facilitation. They will also learn the key elements of writing POGIL activities, including model development. They then will put into practice those skills by improving and refining guided inquiry activities that they will write or have written. There will be writing coaches to help and give feedback in this process.

      This track is designed for new and experienced POGIL practitioners who are interested in refining their classroom facilitation skills. Participants will review the POGIL activity structure, which allows them to better learn the key elements of facilitating a POGIL activity. Creative reporting out ideas and student engagement strategies will be identified. There will be opportunities to be part of a "fishbowl", which will help improve and refine facilitation skills through the recreation of a POGIL classroom, facilitating activities, being observed and then getting feedback and suggestions on that experience.

      This track is designed for those who are interested in learning how to implement guided inquiry into STEM laboratory courses. Participants will conduct actual experiments from the student's perspective in 3 out of 6 sessions. They will discuss the unique benefits and challenges of using guided inquiry for teaching Lab classes. There will also be opportunities to begin writing guided inquiry experiments with coaches to help and give feedback in this process.

      While the workshop focus is on STEM disciplines, attendees from all disciplines are encouraged to attend.

      WORKSHOP COST: Workshop fee is $415 (includes registration materials, lunches and dinners). On-campus housing (optional) for 2 nights is available for an additional $150 and includes accompanying breakfasts.

      The housing fee includes on-campus accommodations for the nights of July 10th and July 11th and breakfast on July 11th and July 12th.
      PLEASE NOTE: Housing is provided only for workshop participants. If you need family housing and/or additional nights prior to or following the workshop, you will need to make your own off-campus arrangements.

      Morrison Hall is comprised of air-conditioned apartment-style suites. Each suite has four, individual bedrooms, two private bathrooms and a kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. Participants utilizing on-campus accommodations also have access to a cardio/weight room.

      Linens are provided and include sheets, a pillow case, blanket, pillow, towels and a wash cloth.

      Check in will be from 9 am to noon on Monday, July 10, 2017 in Koch Commons (Building #19 on the campus map). The workshop will begin at 12:00 pm with lunch and a plenary session in McNeely Hall Room 100.
