After a long career in publishing, Andrew Schultz recently made the jump from for-profit to nonprofit work, assuming the role of Executive Director for Congregation Sukkat Shalom, Wilmette, IL. Andy began his career as a journalist, covering dull suburban town council meetings for a county newspaper. He then began a career trek that included stints for book publisher Scott-Foresman and the National Sporting Goods Association before he attended Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He joined Meredith Corporation in Des Moines as the firm’s first MBA management trainee, and for the next 15 years, Andy worked in circulation, advertising sales and integrated marketing, launching new magazines and creating large, cross-platform marketing programs. He later joined Time Inc., where he worked in business development, launching new magazines and overseeing custom content development for financial services firms. At Hanley Wood, he managed the Consumer Group which included a flourishing architectural home plans marketing business in magazines, books and online; and at Random House he helped re-launch a custom book enterprise while also managing a business media imprint. Most recently he served 8 years as the chief operating officer of Imagination Publishing, a Chicago-based content marketing agency, where he directed the company’s administrative, finance, production and facilities management functions. Andy wishes he was fluent in Spanish, enjoys long-distance commuter biking, theater-going with his peripatetic spouse, and is the proud father of two daughters and two grandchildren.
